FAQ's

What type of engine do I need? The Ribcraft 9.0 Offshore is capable of accommodating a wide range of power options from single and twin outboards to inboard diesel, sterndrives and water jets. The diesel option is a good choice for long distance cruising and commercial usage. Diesel fuel is readily available harbourside and if operating in the U.K. marine diesel is extremely cheap. The main disadvantage is the extra initial purchase cost and the slight reduction in deck space..

The outboard is a very good choice for those operators who have a very short season of revenue earning and boats that are required to be in operation 24/7 (Rescue boats etc.). The outboard can be changed within hours insuring the minimum of down time.

What horsepower do you recommend? It really depends on what you want the boat to do and how fast you want to go. For general use, 200hp and higher is recommended. The majority of these larger Ribs are fitted with a single 250 or 300hp Yanmar diesel engine or twin 135 hp and higher outboards.

Diesel application - Stern drive or water jet.?

For most general applications the stern drive or outboard will suffice, The jet is ideal if you need to travel in very shallow water, specialized rescue or are planning to clock up over 1000 hours a season. The jet is a very impressive bit of equipment, but its main disadvantage is down to the cost. The jet installation is considerably more expensive due to higher installation time and the specialized components needed, To add to this the jet unit itself is quite expensive.

Single or Twin Engines?

For general usage I would recommend sticking to a single diesel engine as its cheaper to run and to service than the twin.  Twin outboard's are recommended on the Ribcraft 9.0

What fuel tank options does the 9.0 mtr have?

The 9.0 can accommodate up to 100 gallons of fuel. Ribcraft fuel tanks are made from a single piece of rolled Marine grade stainless steel and a single seam weld with two end caps. The tanks are all very well baffled. They are installed under the deck lowering the centre of gravity.

I am a commercial operator, What about certification?

All Ribcraft from 4.2 meter to 9.0 meter are MCA (Maritime and coastguard agency) Type approved. This means that the boat has already passed the relevant buoyancy, stability and approved build standard's. All you will need to do is supply the relevant safety equipment onboard, and be inspected that you have that equipment. For more info contact Ribcraft.

Can I tow the 9.0?

Yes you can, But the 9.0 is a fairly large lump to haul around so you will need a good four wheel drive. (Range rover/Discovery etc..)

What trailer do I need?

We recommend a twin axel braked trailer ( Rapide RR17B4 )
