FAQ's

What type of engine do I need?	The Ribcraft 7.8 Offshore is capable of accommodating a wide range of power options from single and twin outboards to inboard diesel, stern drives and water jets. The diesel option is a good choice for long distance cruising and commercial usage. Diesel fuel is readily available harbour side and if operating in the U.K. marine diesel is extremely cheap. The main disadvantage is the extra initial purchase cost and the slight reduction in deck space.
What horsepower do you recommend?	It really depends on what you want the boat to do and how fast you want to go. For general use, 150hp and higher is recommended.
Single or Twin Engines?	Choosing between single or twin's depends the boats usage and your personal preference. For general usage I would recommend sticking to a single motor, Its cheaper to run and to service. Twin motors would be recommended for rough water usage or if you intend to operate in isolated areas or make long lone jaunts. (Twin only available with outboard version)
Diesel application - Stern drive or water jet.?	For most applications the stern drive leg will suffice, Unless you need to travel in very shallow water or specialized rescue applications my advice would be to stick to the stern drive. Don't get me wrong the jet is a very impressive bit of equipment, but the main disadvantage is down to the cost. The jet installation is considerably more expensive due to higher installation time and the specialized components needed, To add to this the jet unit itself is quite expensive.
Can I have an Inbuilt fuel tank, and if so how much fuel will it hold?	The 7.8 can accommodate up to 80 gallons of fuel. Ribcraft fuel tanks are made from a single piece of rolled Marine grade stainless steel and a single seam weld with two end caps. The tanks are all very well baffled. They are installed under the deck lowering the centre of gravity and freeing up that all important storage space beneath the console.
